Robin Brew at Lands End
Setting off at 7.15am, Robin, John Hind and Mark Dalton set of for Lands End on Saturday 11th September 2011. The goal was to ride to Cornish coast line and back to Tavistock in the day. Slightly over optimistically, it was estimated that 12 hours would see us there and back! The ride started well, however, it was clear that John was nursing a heavy cold and after the first hour it was the sensible descision for John to head home. Robin Mark, followed the plan and rode in the direction of Newquay (56miles from Tavistock). Breakfast at Newquay was a welcome break, leaving Newquay after bacon sandwiches, tea, and cakes (all the right nutrition!), Mark had severe cramping in both thighs. This was possibly due to the fact he had just steped off the plane from the Emerates 24 hours prior to the ride. Mark was clearly in pain and after cycling easy and stretching for a few miles tthere was no change. Mark made the decision to rest up stretch and then work his way back home slowly (Mark ended up riding a great 110miles, even with cramping legs). So then there was one! Robin headed in the direction of Redruth, Penzance and finally Lands End after 7 hours and 7 minutes, Robin had reached the furthers point in the south West of the mainland. Having got there there the challenge was now to get back! After a quick stop for fruit and water Robin retraced his steps to Penzance and Redruth, but this time he cut across to the South coast to hit St Austell and then onto Liskeard. By this time it was dark, very dark. With a full selection of rear lights and a failing front light it made the final 2 hour journey back to Tavistock an interesting adventure. Robin finally arrived home a 20 minutes past nine in the evening, with a big smile on his face. 220miles in 14 hours and 5minutes.
